Pancreas - Theory

Pancreas

• Pancreas is an exo-endocrine gland.

It has thin capsule, septa from capsule divides gland into lobules,

• Pancreatic acini are compactly arranged.

• Biphasic stain more pronounced, apical portion of cell cytoplasm is eosinophilie (zymogen granules) and basal portion is basophilic.

• Centroacinar cells are the beginning of the intercalated ducts which are seen at the center of the acini.

• Islets of Langerhans forms endocrine part of gland. Highly vascular

-it consists of polyhedral cells which are of three types-alpha, beta, delta.

Beta cells form 70% of islets, located in the center and secrete insulin.

Alpha cells make 20%, located peripherally and secrete glucagon.

Delta cells secrete stomatostatin
